This is a project that I don't have the time to tinker with anymore. I'm going to lead with the bad:
I am listing it as parts/repair because it has an issue with the power connector. It is very finicky to get the power cable to charge/power the laptop. I am not sure if the power plug needs to be adjusted, replaced, or if it just needs a new power brick/cord. Might be an easy fix, but I won't be accepting returns, so assume you'll have to replace the plug.
I also don't know the status of the battery. It does work, but I don't know any information about health/cycles because I have already removed the HDD/operating system.
Now the good:
- Motherboard has been flashed to Seabios
- If you're not familiar, flashing these is a royal pain because it requires COMPLETE disassembly. When I took it apart, I notched internal laptop frame so the BIOS chip is accessible via SOIC clip underneath the palmrest. This means that you can do a partial disassembly, only remove the palmrest, and have access to the chip to re-flash without 90% of the headache involved in completely breaking it down. The frame was cut in a workshop away from the rest of the laptop parts then blasted with compressed air, there are no shavings/metal bits in the laptop case. See pictures, red circle shows clear access to the chip.
- Wifi card has been replaced with AR9285 for compatibility with Trisquel Linux.
- upgraded to 8gb RAM.
- hard drive caddy included with screws
- no hard drive is included, but it has been tested with Trisquel Linux (see pictures)
- think light still works (see picture)
- celluar modem removed (to remove location services)
- I will include everything that has been removed from the laptop: the original wifi card, the cellular modem, and the original RAM stick (see picture)
I just put a price since all of the other libreboot laptops are expensive. I'll entertain reasonable offers. Trying to recoup costs I have in the project. Shipping cost is based on flat rate box for board games and ample bubble wrap.
