RARE - Coreboot Thinkpad T530 - Like New - i73630QM - 16GB/1TB - No Whitelist.
I am a hobbyist who enjoys modding old Thinkpads.
This unit is the Thinkpad T530, fully Corebooted via external flash, with Battery Whitelist removed.
ME-Cleaner has been used. The Intel Management Engine is neutered.
This is a "rare" unit because few people are willing to go through the troublesome disassembly required to access the BIOS chips on these things. Here is your chance to obtain a ready-to-go unit from someone who was.
This is a fairly powerful machine:
- Quad-core i7-3630QM (roughly on par with an 8th-gen Ultrabook i7 in terms of performance). Can be upgraded.
- 16 GB of RAM, which is the maximum.
- 1TB WD-Blue SSD.
- 15.6'' FHD 1080p display.
- Genuine Lenovo, quasi-new 9 cell battery. This should give about 4 hours of battery under casual load.
- 90W Charger included.
It uses Coreboot with SeaBIOS. Currently it has an installation of Linux Mint Mate, for which credentials will be given. The installation will also contain the stock BIOS, as well as the Coreboot ROM files that I used.
It's looking like this machine will soon be supported by Libreboot. Thankfully, you should be able to flash it on internally using software, because Coreboot allows this. In any case, this machine will allow you to use Windows while offering 99% of the libre experience.
Finally, the physical condition is "Used - Like New". The only imperfection I spotted was the top, which has some sticker shadow and some faint marks. But as seen in pictures, this is barely visible. The rest of the unit looks immaculate. The keyboard and trackpad aren't even worn out. It seems to have escaped heavy usage.
