This is the last Macbook model that you can easily upgrade RAM and storage. There are two DRAM slots, currently its configuration is 4GBx2=8GB. You can easily upgrade it to up to max 16GB(8GBx2). You can also buy a faster SSD drive (256GB, 500GB, 1TB, etc) and easily swap out the current 500GB hard drive, all just with a simple screw driver. It also has built-in DVD-burner (last Apple macbook that has this), you can read/write DVD,DVDR, DVDRW, etc.
