I bought this used laptop from eBay roughly around August 2020. I am now selling this laptop because I upgraded to a Thinkpad P52.
Cosmetically speaking, there's just general wear and tear all around the laptop. All sides of the laptop look exactly the same as they are when I first received this P50.
This laptop will have Windows 10 Professional pre-installed on the M.2 SSD. The only thing I did was install the same Lenovo drivers I installed when I bought the laptop, and updated the laptop to Windows 10 22H2. That's it. I did not use a "pirated" copy of Windows 10; I just used a Microsoft official recovery ISO of Windows 10 and thankfully, modern Thinkpads (that were shipped with Windows 10) have a license key built into the laptop.
When I bought this P50 it only came with one M.2 SSD tray. Now it has TWO M.2 SSD trays (that occupy the LEFT 2.5" HDD/SDD slot) and the SDD harness and RIGHT slot SATA cable for the 2.5" HDD/SDD on the RIGHT side. (Yes there is a different SATA cable for the LEFT side 2.5" HDD/SDD slot but why bother blocking off two M.2 SSD slots with one 2.5" HDD/SDD?)
And yes, you read that correctly. You will get BOTH M.2 SSD trays, the RIGHT side SATA cable AND the 2.5" HDD/SDD caddy. I will also include the LEFT side SATA cable that I got from Lenovo when I bought their "Thinkpad Mobile Workstation Storage Kit", but again, why bother with the left side?
The M.2 SSD Slot 0 is occupied with a Samsung PM981 512GB M.2 NVME SSD.
The M.2 SSD Slot 1 is empty. However, you will have the hardware to put in a M.2 SSD if you wish.
The RIGHT side 2.5" HDD/SDD slot is occupied with an Intel 120GB SSD, 320 Series.
I always ran this system with a Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 SSD in Slot 0. A WD Blue SATA M.2 SSD in Slot 1. And a Samsung 870 QVO SATA SSD in the right hand slot. The P50 ran flawlessly. I have never plugged in TWO NVME SSD's at the same time.
In Picture 8, The USB Type-A port next to the miniDisplay port, I don't know why that USB port is a tiny bit more recessed into the system than the USB Type-A port next to the headphone jack. It still works just fine though. It has always been that way since I bought the laptop years ago.
If you are considering buying this laptop to play modern video games at maximum graphic settings, I'm telling you now, this laptop is not for you. I tried running The Divison 2, and it cannot even get 30 FPS at 1366x768 on the "Low" graphic preset (see last picture.)
The following is TESTED and confirmed working:
- Power cable jack
- Microphone
- Webcam
- Headphone jack (I never used headphones with a built in microphone, I only just used standard earbuds with no microphone)
- All four USB type-A ports, (all ports confirmed they hit USB 3.0 speeds)
- USB Type-C Port (I don't have a Thunderbolt capable device, but I do have a USB Type C external SSD drive, and it does copy files VERY fast)
- HDMI port
- Ethernet port
- All keys in keyboard work.
- Top row left/middle/right mouse buttons work AND the TrackPoint too
- Bottom row left/middle/right mouse buttons work too.
The following was never used at all and I have no equipment to test any of this:
Mini DisplayPort
Expresscard 34mm
SD Card slot
Fingerprint reader
