NOTE: Please read this entire description carefully before you decide to purchase or make an offer! This computer has some important qualities that should be noted, such as the battery, Libreboot BIOS replacement, display panel replacement, pre-installed OS etc. If you have any further questions, please message me and I will respond as quickly as I can.
This is a used Lenovo ThinkPad X200, which includes the official UltraBase docking station, charging brick / cable and original TN display panel + CCFL inverter that was replaced with an AFFS panel (see the Condition section for details). It was in regular use for roughly 4 years total, with upgrades and modifications made since, and still functions well to this day. It is a unique laptop because it is one of the best computers you can get when it comes to user privacy and freedom, thanks to the Libreboot project (see the Libreboot section for details).
Condition
This laptop is in very good physical condition, with minimal cosmetic wear - no cracks, chips, deep scratches or other major physical defects are present. All screws on the bottom of the laptop and the display bezel are still present, however the display bezel is missing the cosmetic plastic caps that cover the two screws on the bottom (see photos). The keyboard shows the most coesmetic wear, however every key functions perfectly fine, and still feels great to type on. The two stickers near the bottom left of the palm rest were removed, which is still evident when seen under direct lighting (see photos).
The included battery is a Lenovo 9-cell lithium-ion battery that was originally installed in the laptop, which currently holds a full charge for about 1-1.5 hours under casual load. As of posting this ad, the battery is at roughly 12% of its design capacity, and while it's still technically usable, it is highly recommended to eventually purchase a new replacement from a trusted vendor.
Specifications
This computer is equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 CPU with a clock speed of 2.4GHz, 1x4GB+1x2GB (6GB total) of DDR3 RAM, a 2.5" 750GB Western Digital HDD (see the Notes section for details), a Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 wireless adapter (see the Libreboot section for details), and a fingerprint reader located to the right of the TrackPoint buttons.
The display is powered by a glossy 1280x800 AFFS panel (P/N: HV121WX4-120), which replaced the original matte 1280x800 TN panel (P/N: 42T0509). The AFFS panel has considerably better viewing angles and color output that are more comparable to modern IPS panels.
As for ports, this computer features 3x USB 2.0 ports, 1x 5-in-1 media card reader, 1x VGA out, 1 DC-in barrel socket, 1x 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, 1x 3.5mm microphone jack, 1x Kensington lock, 1x Gigabit Ethernet port, 1x ExpressCard/54 slot, 1x fingerprint reader, 1x Bluetooth antenna and 1x wireless radio switch. For more details, see: https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X200.
The included UltraBase docking station expands the capabilities of the X200 further by adding 4x USB 2.0 ports, 1x DisplayPort out, 1x VGA out, 1x DC-in barrel socket, 1x 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, 1x 3.5mm microphone jack, 1x Kensington lock, 1x physical key lock (NOTE: original key not included), 1x Gigabit Ethernet port, 1x secondary battery charger slot and 1x CD-RW optical drive. When this laptop was in regular use, the optical drive was replaced with a caddy that instead housed another 2.5" HDD drive, but the original optical drive was restored. Just know that using a second HDD in place of the optical drive is a viable option. For more details, see: https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_X200_UltraBase.
Libreboot
The stock, proprietary Lenovo BIOS on this computer has been replaced with Libreboot (version 20220710 - the latest stable release as of posting this ad), a free (as in freedom) boot firmware based on Coreboot, which prevents potential hardware-level backdoors like the Intel Management Engine (IME) from running. For more details, see: https://libreboot.org/faq.html#intelme. By default, Libreboot launches into the GRUB bootloader, which is capable of booting most UNIX-like operating systems (GNU/Linux, BSD etc), however SeaBIOS is also included as an additional payload, which can be launched from GRUB after the computer first boots up.
In addition to having a free boot firmware, a 100% free operating system (such as those listed here: https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.en.html) can be installed on this computer without any hardware issues that otherwise tend to arise due to non-free drivers or firmware being required. The original Intel wireless chip that was installed in this computer was replaced with an Atheros one (see the Specifications section for details), which unlike the former, does not require non-free drivers to work properly.
Notes
By default, the included 750GB Western Digital HDD will be completely wiped before shipping meaning there will be no OS installed by default, so you'll need to install one yourself once you receive the laptop. Alternatively, if you wish to have a GNU/Linux or BSD operating system pre-installed before the laptop is shipped, please message me and we can make an arrangement. Note that I will not offer to install Windows, as this would defeat the purpose of having Libreboot installed, and also requires purchasing a license.
Upon launching GRUB/SeaBIOS after booting the computer, booting from a USB stick is very unreliable, since it doesn't always get detected as a bootable device, regardless of which USB port it is plugged into. On the other hand, booting from the 5-in-1 media card slot is not only supported, but far more reliable in terms of GRUB/SeaBIOS detecting it at boot time, and is therefore the recommended way to boot into a live GNU/Linux environment.
