Up for sale is a modded Thinkpad x230 laptop. It comes with 12 GB of ram and a 500 GB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, and a whole host of mods. It comes with a USB 3.0 dock and a 90W A/C adapter.

Probably the most obvious mod is the keyboard. It's a Japanese x220 keyboard, which is surprisingly similar to the English keyboard, only it has a few unused keys that can be used with a script to perform certain actions. It's very easy to transfer from using the English layout to the Japanese one, and it looks cool as hell, but if you'd prefer I have a few English layout keyboards that I could install instead, just PM me. It also has the x220 palmrest, but the fingerprint readers for the x230 and x220 are different, so there's just a piece of cloth tape covering the hole at the moment. The ribon cable on the inside still has the connector for a reader and they're cheap, so installing it would be very easy.

The biggest mod is the WQHD mod that hijacks one of the Displayport lanes of the docking connector and drives a 2560x1440 aftermarket LCD panel. The x230 only ever came with a 1366x768 panel, so not only is this lcd able to be driven at the native lower resolution with no scaling artifacts, but can also run the full WQHD on a 12.1 inch panel. The new screen also has much better colors and is much brighter than even the IPS screens that came as an option for this laptop. Because of the nature of the mod, it's not compatible with custom or modded bios, but the included bios gives access to the advanced settings of the BIOS, so it's still very powerful. The mod also replaces the Expresscard port with an extra mSATA port that runs at SATA3 600MB/s (there is an mSATA port already on board, but it only runs at SATA2 speeds). I will include the original Expresscard cage in case that is wanted more than the mSATA mod.

I've also done a USB C charging mod that retains the original 20V Thinkpad barrel plug. It works great with any USB C PD charger that's capable of 20V at at least 65W. The only downside to this mod is that it's hardwired into the bottom case of the laptop, so the barrel jack and USB C module must remain in the case if removing the motherboard. I've also included an external antenna connector for the WIFI card, to allow you to use any kind of external antenna with a male SMA connector to pick up WIFI and bluetooth from potentially as far away as you can manage. The original WIFI antenna in the lid is untouched, and the WIFI reception is still works just as good as original with no external antenna plugged in.

The 500 GB Samsung SSD will come with a fresh install of Windows 10, or if you PM me I'll do any linux distro you'd like, as long as it's in my ability to install. No Windows 11, sorry. The battery included is an OEM 9 cell battery with 17% wear. It still runs for 3 hours of straight video playback and basically all day of off and on work if use power saving mode. It has an EC mod that allows the use of x220 batteries as well, so replacement batteries are cheap. The plastics for the palmrest, trackpad, screen bezel, and HDD cover are all brand new with no wear at all.Thermal paste for the CPU has been replaced with Arctic MX-4 after cleaning the heatsink, so the system stays cool and quiet whatever you're doing.

I loved this laptop for a long time and I've loved it for a long time. It has some wear on the case, you can tell it's been used, but I'd like to pass it onto someone else and get modding some of my other laptops. The only downside I can think of to this laptop is that it still has the stock i5-3320m CPU, but I can't reball CPUs at the moment, and it would be a useless upgrade anyways, it's still perfectly capable of doing everything I want it to, even playing games. I'd love for it to go to a good home, so PM me for any details and questions you might have, and Happy Bidding!
