13" Apple MacBook Pro i7, 2.9 GHz, 16 GB, 1TB SSD mid 2012 USED
I was the original owner, purchased in mid-2013. I kept it in a plastic casing so the metal exterior is Like New, but can be cleaned up more (I'm lazy TBH). Since purchasing, I've swapped out the following components (all 3rd party):
- the battery when it wasn't charging anymore.
- upgraded HD to 1 TB SSD
- upgraded memory to 16 GB
Some things to know about this computer that doesn't keep the computer from working, but may cause you to investigate workarounds:
- Both USB ports DO WORK, BUT sometimes I'll find one not working for a particular peripheral and have to switch it to the other USB port in order to work. This may have to do with USB 2.0 vs. USB 3.0 peripherals over time as technology moved on. Maybe they just need to be cleaned. Recently this hasn't been an issue with using a wireless mouse and a USB wired headset, plus external HDs when needed. So again, they do work, but if something isn't working with it, you'll have to switch to the other USB port. This hasn't happened in a while, but just wanted to give a heads up.
- The CD/DVD drive works, but having the computer notice the disc can be glitchy. Maybe it needs to be cleaned? But sometimes when you put a disc in and it doesn't read it, you'll have to reboot the computer for it to then read it. Recently I put in a DVD and it automatically ejected it. I put it back in and then it took, but then didn't read it. I rebooted it and then it showed on my desktop. Another reboot and it auto-played the Mac OS DVD player.
- The display screen will flicker for 1-2 seconds on start up, and there are SOME (not all) times when I put the display to sleep it doesn't come back on and you'll have to reboot the laptop to correct it. I was using it with a 2nd monitor for WFH and noticed the external monitor would still come on, but not the laptop, and I was able to restart the computer that way. Again this probably happened once a week while using it for maybe 40+ hours.
