I bought this unit in 2021 to try out MacOS and after a positive experience I recently bought a newer Apple product.
I made some upgrades to this Mac:
- New battery in 2022
- Increased SSD from 256 to 768GB
- changed WiFi card to one that can run 802.11 ac.
- protective casing (and yes, it's a fingerprint magnet)
Minor age issues:
- one key "up" key missing, I covered it with a cut-out of an silicon keyboard overlay (see picture). Worked for me.
- 3 "washed" out keys being: e, s and c (see pic)
- there is a dead pixel (turned grey) and is only visible during for a short moment during start-up. During normal running I can't tell where it is. See the attached video for screen quality. Note that it's running on battery power, no performance degradation.
Standard remarks:
- this version of the MacBookPro will run an external monitor via HDMI but I never could get it to work on the propriety Apple outputs.
- It's a used unit, it has some minor scratches on the bottom and had a minor burr on one corner that I did remove but some evidence is still visible. However, I bought a protective case for it so this point is basically mute.
- when it was opened up for a new battery it got a thorough cleaning and a tightening up of the screen hinges which over time tend to come loose. All good now.
- Safe Mag charger included.
I'm selling because as a frequent traveler, this unit having a full aluminum (and thus sturdy!) body, it's just a bit too heavy to drag around all day.
But for it's age it is still incredible snappy and runs as good as some of my few year old Windows laptops and none of these have this great Retina display.
Let me know if any questions!
