Despite the list of issues this is a decent computer which is in working condition with the addition of some RAM, an SSD and a charger. I would describe the keyboard and general wear and tear as "good" condition, which I've tried to show in the pics.
This has been described as the "last good Thinkpad" because you can actually open it and replace the RAM, SSD, keyboard etc rather than having everything soldered on and glued together. And the 8th gen chip is actually quite nice.
Reason for selling: I have too many Thinkpads (including another t480) already in my collection 🤣
List of issues
- Bootlocked
- Charge port only works at a specific angle (probably needs replacing. Still chargable via lightning port)
- No RAM
- No SSD / NVMe SSD
- Display is not OEM. I fitted this with a 4K IPS panel myself, which while it is a vast improvement over stock, is not stock. Take that for what it's worth
- No charger - charges via USB-c / lightning port
Note on the locked bios:
This was the state I purchased the laptop in. My original intention was to revert this (if you search around online, you can find there's some toolkits that facilitate this), however I never got around to doing that - it is possible to use the computer by inserting an NVMe SSD with an existing Windows installation on it.
