This is a listing for a USED but otherwise fully functional laptop.
I purchased this as part of a lot from a local surplus sale. This is a 15" RETINA model of the 2012 MacBook Pro series with five available screen resolutions for a higher definition viewing experience than the non-retina model of the same year. Note there is no optical CD/DVD drive in this MacBook.
The good: This MacBook seems to work fine with everything I installed and tested on it. The battery is in its mid-life at 67% but it still holds a respectable charge without needing to be tethered to a power adaptor.
The bad: One minor dented area in the form of three close dents along the right edge of the case. Doesn't affect integrity of the shell but worth noticing for transparency. Also, be aware this MacBook uses the briefly-used and now obsolete SATA-based blade SSDs rather than the NVMe-based blade SSDs of later models. That means this MacBook is unable to be upgraded with the common "Apple to Third Party" NVMe adaptors that are commonly available and allow later models to use aftermarket NVMe drives. Keep in mind that if you buy this MacBook and want to upgrade the storage, your options are essentially limited to proprietary Apple-made SATA-based blade SSDs found here on eBay, and the max capacity available last time I checked is something like 768GB. The ram is soldered to the board and not user-serviceable.
The ugly: When flipped open it becomes apparent that the screen hinge is somewhat loose with about 1" of play as measured from the top of the screen, and that the screen shows some light to moderate keyboard-induced scratching, as well as an area near the webcam where approximately 1" of the rubber bumper material seems to have flaked off. See photos. Luckily the scratches are only apparent when the screen is turned off and reflecting light in just the right way. Again, the battery still holds 2/3rds of its original charge, but it does indicate that it might be time for a replacement.
Charging cable is NOT included and will have to be sourced elsewhere. Unit was photographed with a user account installed in order to be able to take a photo of the specifications and battery status, but will ship with a fresh install of OSX 10.15.7 Catalina waiting for you to setup the first time you open it. No username or password required. See final photo.
